South Maui Guide
Why Stay in South Maui ? The sun - this part of the island
has more sunshine days than Kaanapali. With great sun, all vacation activities are more accessible- sunbathing, of course, golf, snorkeling, bicycling, paddle boarding, kayaking, beach walks, running, and most importantly, snoozing.

The beach access was perfect and we used the beach chairs in the unit to sit on the beach...along with the beach towels We will most definitely go back to the unit again!"

"Thanks a million for letting us stay at your beautiful condo. Waking up to the waves crashing on the beach and watching the sun rise and set all from the balcony are moments we will never forget. We had the most amazing time on our first trip to Maui."

7 Day Maui Itinerary
Creating the "best" itinerary depends on your interests, pace, and budget. Here's a balanced 7-day itinerary to explore the highlights of Maui:
Day 1: Arrival in Maui
- Arrive at Kahului Airport (OGG)
- Check into your accommodation.
- Relax at the beach or explore the local area.
- Enjoy a traditional Hawaiian dinner with sunset views. Book restaurants before you arrive
Day 2: Ocean Day
Get out onto the ocean, this is a must; Whale Watching, an AM Snorkel trip to Molokini
or a sunset cruise.- To really feel and appreciate Maui you need to see it from the Ocean.
- Whale season is December to April, but in the middle of the season, you cant get away from them.
- Cloudy or windy Day, visit the Maui Ocean Center to learn about Hawaii's marine life.
- Spend the rest of the day exploring nearby attractions like the Maui Tropical Plantation or Iao Valley State Park.
- Treat yourself to a dinner at a fine dining restaurant in Kaanapali or Wailea.
Day 3: Upcountry Maui
- Head to Upcountry Maui for a change of scenery.
- Visit the charming town of Makawao known for its art galleries and boutiques.
- Explore the Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm and take in panoramic views.
- Have lunch at Kula Lodge or a local farm-to-table restaurant.
- Visit the Maui Wine for a wine tasting experience.
- Return to your accommodation in the late afternoon.
- Go to a Luau in the evening- Old Lahaina is the best!
Day 4: Haleakalā National Park
- Wake up early for a sunrise trip to Haleakalā National Park.
- Drive up to the summit for breathtaking views of the sunrise above the clouds, note it is really cold up there.
- Explore the various hiking trails or bike down Haleakala, numerous tour operators offer experiences biking down the mountain.
- Stop by the Kula Botanical Garden on your way back.
- Explore the quaint and eclectic Paia town and watch the surfers brave the strong waves at nearby Ho’okipa beach.
Return to your accommodation and relax after a long day.

- Alternatively, explore the coral reefs at Honolua Bay, Kapalua Beach, Kamaole II, or Ahihi-Kinau Marine Preserve.
- Explore a beach- Big Beach- rustic and less crowded beautiful beach. Keawakapu Beach- long and scenic beach in Wailea. ,
-Learn to Surf – Charlie Young Beach in Kihei
- Have dinner at a waterfront restaurant and watch the sunset. (Mamas is THE restaurant on Maui but it books months ahead.)
Day 6: "You are Special Day"
For His or Her, these are great areas for specific activities like
Golf- both areas have extraordinary golf courses,
Shopping – Wailea and Kaanapali have great shopping and restaurants
Spas- Grand Wailea and Riz Carlton have excellent luxurious spas
Day 7: Relaxation and Departure
- Spend your last day relaxing at the beach or pool.-
Head to the airport for your departure, or extend your stay if possible.
If you are an active vacationer, or a relaxer, this itinerary offers a mix of adventure, relaxation, and cultural experiences, allowing you to get a taste of Maui's diverse attractions so you can pick and choose to make the most of your vacation.
Optional Day: The Road to Hana
- This is not the great experience it used to be. The county has sealed off parking at many of the vistas along the way, like the waterfalls due to extremely limited parking. They have also sealed off access and view of the Seven Sacred Pools which was a stunning highlight of the trip. Hana is an all-day excursion and given the changes, the experience is radically reduced, I do not believe it’s worth a whole day of vacation. However, If you do choose to go to Hana, you can still visit:
- Waikamoi Ridge Trail, Pipiwai trail and Hana town.
- Wai'anapanapa State Park for its black sand beach and sea caves. A reservation is required.
Please note that Lahaina was destroyed in a massive fire in 2023. There is nothing left and the area is closed off
